Five Horns to compete at U.S. Amateur Championship

The Longhorns will have five golfers represent UT at the U.S. Amateur Championship at The Riviera Country Club and Bel-Air Country Club beginning Monday.

Doug Ghim and Scottie Scheffler, both seniors, will join junior Steven Chervony, sophomore Spencer Soosman and freshman Kristoffer Reitan at the event.

Scheffler, Ghim and Reitan are ranked by the World Amateur Golf Rankings which automatically qualified them for the event. Soosman and Chervony each won qualifiers in July, Soosman at Andover Country Club and Chervony at Seagate Country Club.


The Riviera Country Club, site of the Longhorns’ 2012 national championship win, is located in Palisades, Calif. The other co-host, Bel-Air Country Club is in Los Angeles.

There will be two rounds of stroke play at both courses to determine the 64 players that will advance to match play at Riviera beginning Wednesday. The event will be televised on FS1 and Fox.
