Texas soccer team picked to finish eighth in Big 12

The Texas soccer team was voted eighth in the Big 12 preseason poll Thursday, picked to be better than Iowa State and Kansas State.

West Virginia took the top spot of the conference poll with 81 points. Kansas was selected second with 71 points, including a first place vote. Oklahoma rounded out the top three teams.

Texas received 32 points, trailing TCU by five, and will have 18 letter winners returning to the team. Those letter winners combined to score 21 goals and registered 12 assists as the Texas soccer team finished 8-9-1 last season.


Alexa Adams, Mikayla Flores and Cyera Hintzen are the returning forwards this season, having combined for ten goals last year. Also returning are forward Olivia Brook and midfielder Katie Glenn. Each scored three goals last season.

The Longhorns kick off the season with an exhibition match on Friday. They’ll host Incarnate Word at Mike A. Myers Stadium at 7 p.m. The contest can be seen on Longhorn Network. Admission and parking will be free to all those wishing to attend.
