Schubert advances to semis at Women’s Amateur

Texas senior golfer Sophia Schubert defeated Isabella Fierro of Mexico 3 and 1 Friday at the U.S. Women’s Amateur to advance to the semifinals in Chula Vista, Calif.

Schubert is set to take on a unique competitor as she faces Chia Yen Wu of Chinese Taipei. Wu is just 13 years old and defeated Lauren Stephenson in 30 holes. The two will tee off at 10:15 a.m. Saturday.

The last time a Texas golfer advance beyond the round of 16 was 2013. Katelyn Sepmoree accomplished that feat.


The honorable mention All-American finished last season with a 72.49 stroke average, best on the Longhorns squad. She had seven top-10 finishes and finished in the top-five in five of them.
