Ariel Atkins helps Team USA to U23 Four Nations win

Ariel Atkins, a UT senior, helped Team USA defeat Japan 103-71 to sweep the competition and win the inaugural U23 Four Nations Tournament in Tokyo, Japan Tuesday.

Atkins started the game and contributed two points, four rebounds and a steal in 18 minutes.

Five team members finished with double-digits in scoring and Team USA outrebounded Japan 66-35 in the win.


The U.S. shot 53 percent from the field, including 9-of-18 from beyond the 3-point line.

Team USA opened the tournament with a 78-60 win over Australia on Saturday. Atkins started for Team USA and played 13 minutes in the win. She scored two points, assisted on two baskets and had two steals in the win.

The U.S. kept rolling with a 107-61 win over Canada Sunday. Atkins scored eight points to go with two assists and two blocked shots in 19 minutes of play.

Tuesday’s win made it a clean sweep for the tournament.

As a result of making the U23 team, Atkins did not make the trip to Italy with her UT teammates.
