Texas swimmers earn medals at World University Games

Three UT representatives earned medals in swimming Friday at the World University Games in Taipei, Taiwan.

Texas senior Jonathan Roberts won a silver medal, as did incoming freshman Austin Katz. Both swam for Team USA. UT junior Joanna Evans took a bronze for the Bahamas.

Roberts swam the anchor leg of the 800-meter freestyle relay to pick up the silver. He swam a split time of 1 minute, 48.83 seconds. The team finished second in 7:12.19 behind Japan. Roberts was an All-American in three individual events at the NCAA Championships.


Evans took third in the 800 freestyle final. She finished in 8:31.18. She was eighth in the 200 freestyle final with a time of 2:00.70. The junior earned All-America honors in the 200 and 1,650-yard freestyle at the NCAA Championships.

Katz finished second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:56.70. The incoming freshman just missed out on the victory as Danas Rapsys of Lithuania won in 1:56.52.
