UT tennis player Yuya Ito keeps winning at World University Games

Yuya Ito continued his run at the World University Games, defeating Logan Staggs of the U.S. 6-2, 6-2 in the round of 16 Friday.

It was another impressive win for the sophomore who upset the No. 4 seed Hong Chung on Wednesday. Ito defeated the fourth-seeded player out of Korea 7-6 (3), 5-7, 7-5. The Texas sophomore needed just two sets to win Friday.

Ito, playing for Japan, will now take on eighth-seeded Nuno Borges of Portugal in the quarterfinals on Sunday at 8:30 p.m.


Ito was an ITA All-American after his first year on the Longhorns.

The 30th-seeded tennis player will look for another upset win Sunday.
