The Texas soccer team needed overtime, but a goal by Cyera Hintzen in the 98th minute kept UT undefeated. The 1-0 win over UT-Rio Grande Valley moves the No. 21 Longhorns to 8-0 for the first time in the history of the program.

It’s also the first time Texas has completed the non-conference portion of their schedule without a loss or a tie.

“It’s fantastic for our players,” head coach Angela Kelly said of staying undefeated before conference play. “Just figuring out ways to win. It’s not always attractive but our game is not always nice.”

At 97:13 the Longhorns finally broke through the UT-Rio Grande Valley defense. Cydney Billups set up Hintzen on a give-and-go to score the winning goal from eight yards out. It was Hintzen’s fourth goal of the season, which leads Texas.

The Longhorns dominated in overall shots and shots on goal. They took 28 shots, seven on frame.

UT-Rio Grande Valley goalkeeper Kinga Szemik was tested often and made six saves on the night.

On the other hand, UT-Rio Grande Valley had just five shots with three on goal. Nicole Curry kept the clean sheet for Texas, making three saves on the night.

Despite not cashing in, Haley Berg kept the pressure on Szemik. Berg had seven shots, two on goal.

Texas had 12 corners while UT-Rio Grande Valley had just one chance from the corner.
