Four Longhorns advance to singles finals at Debbie Southern Fall Classic

Texas will have four women’s tennis players vying for individual titles Sunday at the Debbie Southern Fall Classic in Greenville, S.C.

Petra Granic, Bojana Markovic, Marta Perez-Mur and Dani Wagland all won their respective semifinal matches to set up a busy final day in the tournament hosted by Furman.

“This was a very successful day,” third-year Texas head coach Howard Joffe said in a UT press release. “Petra, Bojana, Dani and Marta all collected wins over excellent opposition. Hopefully we can finish strong in this tournament tomorrow.”


Granic, the No. 39-ranked player in Division I, beat Wake Forest’s Emma Davis in singles flight one 7-5, 6-4.

Markovic, a freshman from Serbia, bounced back from a first-set loss to beat Eliza Omirou of Wake Forest in the singles two flight 2-6, 6-1, 6-1. In singles flight four, Perez-Mur beat Alexa Bortles of Mississippi 7-5, 6-4.

Wagland beat Vanderbilt’s Emily Smith 6-1, 6-2 in singles flight six.
