Longhorns tied for eighth at Schooner Fall Classic

A pair of Longhorns each shot 71 as Texas finished the first day of the Schooner Fall Classic in a tie for eighth place in Norman, Okla. Saturday.

Maddie Luitwieler and Kaitlyn Papp led Texas to a first-round score of 290 after 18 holes. The Longhorns are tied with Baylor at 6 over par. Oklahoma leads the competition at 7 under par after shooting 277.

Luitwieler tied her best round in college and sits in a tie for 18th place. She made a hole-in-one on the par 3 17th hole for an eagle.


Papp, playing in just her second collegiate tournament, finished in the top-20 in her first competition and currently sits tied with Luitwieler.

Greta Isabella Voelker and Maren Cipolla each shot 74 in the first round for Texas. They are tied for 42nd place.

Emilee Hoffman shot 75 and sits in a tie for 50th as she recorded 15 pars. As a team the Longhorns led the tournament with 61 pars.

Emma Albrecht of Notre Dame, Maddie Szeryk of Texas A&M, Alice Hewson of Clemson and Kaitlin Milligan of Oklahoma are tied for first place after shooting 67.

Sunday’s second round starts at 9:10 a.m.
