Texas sophomore Bianca Turati topped teammate Petra Granic for the singles title of the ITA Texas Regional Championships in Fort Worth Tuesday.
Turati won 7-5, 6-3 to take the singles title for Texas. Both qualified for the ITA National Fall Championships by reaching the final at the regional.
“Bianca and Petra waged a demanding battle,” said UT head coach Howard Joffe. “These ladies are teammates and roommates, and I cannot be more proud of the way in which the match was played. Today, Bianca came out on top and no one is happier for her than Petra.”
The Longhorns nearly made it a sweep of singles and doubles championships. The team of Dani Wagland and Marta Perez-Mur came up just short in the doubles final against the team from Rice. Wendy Zhang and Lindsey Hodge won the match 3-6, 6-4, 10-8.
“Dani Wagland and Marta Perez-Mur had a convincing lead, but the Rice team has so much experience and was able to pip us at the post,” Joffe said.
