The Longhorns golf team shot 279 to sit in second place after the first round of the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate in Alpharetta, Ga. on Friday.
Doug Ghim led Texas with a 6-under 66 and is tied for the lead in the individual competition. Matthew Wolf of Oklahoma State and Chris Petefish also carded 66s in the round.
Oklahoma State leads the competition after shooting 277. Wake Forest, UCLA, Duke and UNLV are tied for third, three shots behind Texas.
Ghim started the day hot, making five birdies on the front nine. He made two more on the back nine and a lone bogey on the 17th hole that cost him the outright lead.
Texas shot well as a team, with no golfer shooting over par on the day.
Kristoffer Reitan, Nick Costello and Spencer Soosman each shot 71 to sit in a tie for 25th. Reitan made three birdies in the round to go with two bogeys. Costello shot five birdies but also recorded two bogeys and a double. Soosman had two birdies on the front nine before making bogey on the 18th hole.
Scottie Scheffler is one shot back of that group and sits in a tie for 38th. His three birdies were matched by three bogeys.
