Poluta advances to final of Roberta Alison Fall Classic

Katie Poluta earned a first-round win before advancing to the finals of the Roberta Alison Fall Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Friday.

Poluta defeated Tea Jandric of Mississippi 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinals before her opponent in the semis withdrew from competition.

Poluta, a junior from South Africa, will face No. 37 Andie Daniell of Alabama in Saturday’s final.


Dani Wagland also won in the quarterfinals of a different singles draw, defeating Anna Vrbenska of Mississippi 6-4, 6-7, 1-0 (10-2). The senior fell to Rianna Valdes of South Carolina in the semifinals. Valdes won the match 6-0, 6-1.

Poluta and Wagland teamed up for doubles action as well, but fell to Jandric and Vrbenska in the doubles draw quarterfinals, 6-3.
