The Texas softball team moved to 5-0 during the fall with wins over Weatherford College and Alvin Community College Saturday at McCombs Field. The Longhorns defeated Weatherford 2-1 before trouncing Alvin C.C. 18-0 in five innings.
Taylor Ellsworth went 3-for-6 on the day with four runs scored, a double and three RBIs. Bekah Alcozer was 3-for-4 overall and hit a three-run home run in the win over Alvin. Kaitlyn Washington walked three times and went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. Randel Leahy had three RBIs on the day.
MK Tedder, a freshman, had a solid outing, going 3-for-7 with two runs scored and two doubles. Paige von Sprecken also had two doubles while scoring three runs and driving in another.
Freshman pitcher Chloe Romero went seven innings in the 2-1 win over Weatherford. She struck out four and allowed one earned run on 10 hits.
Arian Adams, another UT freshman, went three innings and gave up just one hit while striking out three against Alvin. Von Sprecken struck out three in relief as she tossed two perfect innings.
On Friday, Texas topped St. Mary’s 3-2. Janae Jefferson, a freshman, went 2-for-2 with a run scored while von Sprecken also had two hits, including a double. She also scored a run.
Erica Wright pitched four innings and struck out nine, though she gave up two runs on two hits.
Brooke Bolinger struck out four Rattlers in three innings of relief.
The Texas softball team next takes on McClennan Community College on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at McCombs Field.
