The Longhorns volleyball team had their undefeated Big 12 record tested by Kansas State, but rallied to win after falling down two sets in Manhattan, Kan. on Wednesday.
Texas defeated the Wildcats 21-25, 24-26, 25-18, 25-15, 15-11. The win improved the Longhorns to 18-2 overall and 10-0 in the Big 12.
Cat McCoy became the all-time leader in digs for the Longhorns, surpassing Dematria Sance. McCoy recorded 25 digs in the match, raising her total to 1,639. She was tied with Sance entering the match.
Micaya White led Texas with 17 kills and added a season-high 17 digs. It was her fourth double-double of the season.
Lexi Sun had 16 kills while Yaazie Bedart-Ghani added 10 for Texas. Morgan Johnson was one kill shy of double digits while hitting .529.
Ashley Shook led the Longhorns with 55 assists. She added seven kills and 11 digs for her eighth double-double.
Chiaka Ogbogu led Texas with 11 blocks on the night as Texas out-blocked Kansas State 14-6.5.
The Wildcats held a 2-0 lead before the Longhorns were able to fight back for three straight set wins.
Kylee Zumach led Kansas State (9-15, 2-9 Big 12) with 19 kills while Bryna Vogel added 11.
The third set was close until Sun made three straight kills to give Texas a 21-13 edge. The Longhorns were able to finish of their first set win from there.
Texas had six blocks in the fourth set and earned a ten-point lead at 21-11. Sun’s 13th kill gave Texas its second set victory.
Though the Longhorns regained momentum, they lost it to start the deciding set. They fell behind 7-4 in a race to 15. Texas went on a 4-1 run to tie the set at 8-8, however. Bedart-Ghani made her 10th kill of the match to give Texas a 12-10 lead before she assisted on a block with Ogbogu to close out the match.
The Longhorns volleyball team is back in action on Saturday as it hosts Texas Tech at 2 p.m. on Longhorn Network.
