Turati upsets No. 2 player while advancing at ITA National Fall Championships

Bianca Turati continued her run at the ITA National Fall Championships Friday with two wins to advance to the semifinals.

The Texas sophomore defeated second-ranked Gabriela Talaba of Texas Tech 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals. Turati made it two wins against No. 1 and No. 2 in back-to-back days. She topped No. 1 Shibahara 7-6 (4), 6-2 in the singles draw round of 32. Talaba is currently ranked No. 2.

Turati scored her first win of the day over 12th-seeded Michaela Gordon of Stanford, 6-2, 7-6 (7) in the round of 16. Turati will face Samantha Harris of Duke on Saturday.


Petra Granic also competed Friday, in the consolation bracket. She scored a 6-1, 6-1 win over Marta Gonzalez of Georgia.
