The Texas tandem of Rodrigo Banzer and Leonardo Telles qualified for the finals of the ITA National Fall Championships with a win on Saturday in Indian Wells, Calif.
Banzer and Telles defeated Chema Carranza and Josef Dodridge of Wisconsin 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (12-10).
Telles and Banzer had an easy time in the first set, but the team from Wisconsin fought back. The Texas team won the third-set supertiebreaker.
The duo’s third victory of the event sets up a final with Petros Chrysochos and Skander Mansouri of Wake Forest on Sunday.
The ITA National Fall Championships event is the second out of three majors in college tennis. The ITA All-American Championships occurred last month. The final major of the season will be contested in May.
The inaugural ITA National Fall Championships replaces the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships that was previously held annually in November.
