Longhorns relay teams post nation’s best times at Texas Invitational

The Texas men’s and women’s swimming teams each posted the nation’s best time in the 800-yard freestyle relay to begin the Texas Invitational at the Jamail Swimming Center Wednesday night.
The ninth-ranked men’s team of Jonathan Roberts, Jeff Newkirk, Joseph Schooling and Townley Haas finished the race in 6 minutes, 14.62 seconds to dominate the competition. It was the seventh-best time in school history.
John Thomas Larson, Austin Katz, Jacob Huerta and Sam Kline finished in second place with a time of 6:19.44.
The No. 2 women finished the race in 6:58.75 to take the top spot. Claire Adams, Rebecca Millard, Remedy Rule and Joanna Evans posted an automatic qualifying time for the NCAA Championships. It was the fifth-fastest time for the event in school history.
Quinn Carrozza, Evie Pfeifer, Lauren Case and Ella Tierney took fourth place in 7:03.36. Carrozza recorded a personal record in the first leg as she finished in 1:44.11.
The second day of action at the Texas Invitational begins at 10 a.m. Finals will be held at 6 p.m.
