Texas swimmers and diver honored by Big 12
Posted December 6th, 2017
Longhorns Jordan Windle, Austin Katz, Joanna Evans and Meghan O’Brien took home weekly Big 12 swimming and diving honors on Wednesday.
Katz, a freshman, was named the conference’s swimmer of the week while Windle, another freshman, was picked as the league’s diver of the week. This is Windle’s third straight weekly honor.
Katz became the 10th-fastest swimmer of all time in the 200 backstroke and the second-fastest Longhorn ever in the event with his winning mark of 1:38.49, the top time in the country this season. Windle swept the springboards last month at the annually competitive UT Diving Invite.
Juniors Evans and O’Brien were honored on the women’s team.
Evans, who broke two Big 12 records at the Texas Invitational, was tabbed the swimmer of the week.
O’Brien, the league’s diver of the week, edged teammate and 2017 NCAA one-meter champion Alison Gibson in the one-meter final, and she won the three-meter board by over 10 points.
