Horned Frogs outscored Longhorns 28-9 in second quarter

FORT WORTH — Kianna Ray hit a pair of free throws with 6 seconds to play to lift TCU to a stunning 79-77 upset victory over No. 7 Texas Wednesday night at Scholmaier Arena.

It was the Central Texas combination of Ray, who went to Bowie, and Stony Point grad Jordan Moore that took down the Longhorns. Moore scored 19 points and Ray had 17.

Texas dropped to 13-2, 4-1 in the Big 12. TCU is 11-6, 2-3.


Ariel Atkins scored 25 points for the Longhorns.

TCU outworked and outplayed Texas in a bewildering second quarter. TCU, trailing 22-14 after one period, then outscored the Longhorns 28-9 in the second to take a 40-31 lead at halftime.

Texas rallied and took a brief lead, 55-53, on a jumper from the left baseline by Atkins. TCU led after three quarters, 60-57.

Texas returns to Big 12 action against Kansas at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Erwin Center. About 50 former players are expected to return for Exes Weekend.

The Longhorns play top-ranked UConn at 6 p.m. Monday at the Erwin Center. The game will be televised by ESPN2.
