Texas men dominate at Longhorn Invitational

The Texas men’s tennis team picked up 10 wins Saturday on the second day of the Longhorn Invitational at the Weller Tennis Center.

The Longhorns swept the doubles action, taking four victories, and added six singles wins.

No. 37 Leonardo Telles defeated Daniel Valent of Vanderbilt 6-4, 6-0 to bounce back after a loss Friday.


Christian Sigsgaard got back into singles action with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Billy Rowe of Vanderbilt. It was the first singles match of the 2017-18 season for last season’s Big 12 freshman of the year.

Rodrigo Banzer topped Henrik Korsgaard of Virginia Tech 7-5, 6-1.

John Mee also won in straight sets 7-5, 6-0 over Feliksas Sakalauskas of Virginia Tech.

Colin Markes notched a 6-1, 6-1 win over Lachlan McPhee of Vanderbilt.

In the afternoon session, Texas took another singles victory as Johnny Goodwin defeated Virginia Tech’s Abraham Asaba 6-3, 6-1.

In doubles, the No. 5 team, Banzer and Telles, defeated Vanderbilt’s No. 36 team of McPhee and Rowe 8-4.

Sigsgaard and Adrian Ortiz defeated a team from Virginia Tech 8-3.

The 23rd ranked duo of Yuya Ito and Harrison Scott topped a Vanderbilt pair 8-3.

Markes and Mee didn’t have much trouble defeating a Virginia Tech duo 8-4.

The tournament will conclude Sunday.
