Oklahoma 39, Texas 27: The expanded boxscore

Posted December 1st, 2018

How it all happened Saturday in Arlington:

First quarter

Texas 7, Oklahoma 3. Texas, which got the ball to start the game, marced 75 yards for the early score. It was UT’s eighth first-possession score this season and Ehlinger’s 14th rushing score of his career — five of them have come against the Sooners. Texas corner Kris Boyd was flagged for two facemasks and one pass interference in the quarter.

Texas: Sam Ehlinger 16-yard run (Cameron Dicker kick, 11:38)

Oklahoma: Austin Seibert 20-yard field goal, 7:37

Second quarter

Halftime: Oklahoma 20, Texas 14. Two of the quarter’s three touchdown drives were kept alive by successful fourth-down conversions — Ehlinger’s run came four plays after Collin Johnson’s 23-yard catch on fourth-and-4 from OU’s 38 and Kyler Murray’s first scoring pass was preceded by Trey Sermon’s short conversion on fourth-and-1 from UT’s 32. OU took the halftime lead by going 80 yards in only 41 seconds.

Oklahoma: Seibert 27-yard field goal, 14:50

Texas: Ehlinger 3-yard run (Dicker kick, 11:22)

Oklahoma: CeeDee Lamb 28-yard pass from Kyler Murray (Seibert kick, 5:01)

Oklahoma: Grant Calcaterra 6-yard pass from Murray (Seibert kick, :18)

Third quarter

Texas 27, Oklahoma 27. The Sooners, leading at the break, opened the second half with a touchdown drive for a 13-point edge, UT’s largest deficit since it twice trailed Oklahoma State by 17 points at the end of October. But the Horns responded with a pair of Ehlinger touchdown throws; after his second, though, Dicker’s extra-point kick was blocked. It was the freshman’s first missed point-after kick of the season, after 49 straight makes.

Oklahoma: Trey Sermon 6-yard run (Seibert kick, 12:01)

Texas: Collin Johnson 27-yard pass from Ehlinger (Dicker kick, 8:47)

Texas: Lil’Jordan Humphrey 5-yard pass from Ehlinger (kick failed, 2:44)

Fourth quarter

Final: Oklahoma 39, Texas 27. The Sooners suffered a big blow when they lost Marquise Brown on the final play of the third quarter. He ended up on crutches. But the Longhorns, who had been outscored by 67 points in the fourth quarter all year, got shut out on Saturday. The killers were a safety off a cornerback blitz that Ehlinger did not see coming, and OU’s subsequent drive that chewed up more than six valuable minutes off the clock.

Oklahoma: Seibert 31-yard field goal, 12:37

Oklahoma: Safety, Tre Brown sack in endzone, 8:27

Oklahoma: Calcaterra 18-yard pass from Murray (Seibert kick, 2:00)
