The Austin American-Statesman’s 2020 Fab 55: Nos. 10-1

Posted February 7th, 2019

The Austin American-Statesman’s 2020 Fabulous 55 ranks the top 55 prospects inside the state of Texas. It’ll be broken down in five parts with the entire list releasing on Feb. 7, the day after national signing day for the 2019 cycle.

10. RJ Mickens, S, Southlake Carroll (6A), 6-1/188, Undecided  — Mickens patrols the safety with confidence. He’s solid in run support and does a great job in coverage or as a centerfielder.

9. Malik Hornsby, QB, Fort Bend Marshall (5A), 6-2/175, Undecided  — Hornsby is a unique talent at quarterback who is still refining his throwing technique. His arm strength is fantastic and he’s unreal when the play goes off script.

8. Jase McClellan, RB, Aledo (5A), 5-10/201, Committed to Oklahoma  — McClellan would be considered the top running back in the state in most recruiting cycles. He’s big, fast and a winner who has proven his skills in multiple state championship games.

7. Chad Lindberg, OT, Clear Creek (6A), 6-6/306, Undecided  — Lindberg is a future left tackle with a great frame and good footwork. He’s solid in the run game and polished as a pass blocker. His potential is limitless as he continues to get stronger.

6. Vernon Broughton, DE, Cy Ridge (6A), 6-5/280, Undecided  — Broughton is a terror off the edge. He’s big enough to demand double teams on the edge, fast enough to get after the quarterback and versatile enough to play defensive end or defensive tackle.

5. Troy Omeire, WR, Fort Bend Austin (6A), 6-3.5/205, Undecided  — Omeire is a big, strong wide receiver with a big catch radius and great vertical speed. He’s a two-time first-team all-district selection with his pick of college offers.

4. Dwight McGlothern, CB, Cedar Hill Trinity Christian (TAPPS), 6-2/180, Undecided  — McGlothern is a tall, long cornerback with quick hips and the ability to move in short spaces. He matches up well with bigger receivers on the outside in man or zone coverage.

3. Demond Demas, WR, Tomball (5A), 6-4/210, Committed to Texas A&M  — Demas is a state champion long jumper and a freak of nature for a kid with his height and length. The Texas A&M commit is still taking trips and looking around at other schools.

2. Ja’Quinden Jackson, ATH, Duncanville (6A), 6-2/200, Undecided  — Jackson is prep quarterback, but he’s open to moving positions in college. That could be at wide receiver or on defense. He’s a big, fast athlete with immense potential.

1. Zachary Evans, RB, Galena Park North Shore (6A), 6-0/213, Undecided  — Evans is the best player from Texas in some time and considered one of the top overall prospects in the country. He’s drawing comparisons to Adrian Peterson.
