The Dotted Line: Commitment Q&A with Texas signee Marcus Washington

Posted February 19th, 2019

It was easy to forget the importance of four-star wide receiver Marcus Washington when Texas signed five-star Jordan Whittington, picked up the transfer of five-star Bru McCoy, and signed the Gatorade Player of the Year in Jake Smith. But Washington is a future cog for Texas’ offense and he proved his status by scoring two touchdowns and earning the MVP award at the Under Armour All-America Game in Orlando.

At what age did you fall in love with football?

I fell in love at a young age. My dad played football growing up. I was five years old, but I was playing against the older kids and still balling. Growing up, I liked basketball better until eighth grade because I broke my ankle in football. I ended up getting my first offer as a football player in high school and knew that was my route.

What made Texas your choice?

The family atmosphere, and coaches I get along with real well. I wanted to get away from home and grow as a person.

What was the toughest part of the recruiting process?

I built relationships with coaches from other schools that were real, and it was tough to tell them that Texas was the right place for me.

What excites you most about college?

I just want to get on the field.

What word would you use to describe Tom Herman?

A people person. He was always real with me.

What is your role as a Longhorn?

The X-receiver behind Collin Johnson.

What artist would you most like to see live?

G Herbo.

Favorite movie?

I just watch ESPN.

Favorite athlete of all-time?

Keenan Allen.

Favorite sport to watch other than football?
