The Dotted Line: Four future Longhorns are one win away from state title rings

Posted December 18th, 2019

Four future Longhorns are one win away from claiming a state championship, though the two 2020 commitments still alive are dealing with injuries. All 10 11-man championships will be held from Wednesday through Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

Duncanville quarterback Ja’Quinden Jackson led his team back to the Class 6A Division I title game. But the four-star UT pledge was injured in the second quarter of the state semifinals and is unlikely to play Saturday.

Four-star safety Xavion Alford has missed most of his senior season with a knee injury. He might be available for Alvin Shadow Creek’s title game with Denton Ryan on Friday night, which features the two 2021 Texas commits still alive in the playoffs.

2021 pledges

Texas’ 2021 commitments went 2-1 in the state semifinals. Six of the seven pledges made the state playoffs, while Lake Travis tight end Lake McRee missed them with an injury. The two remaining prospects play for Denton Guyer. Offensive lineman Hayden Conner and his Katy Taylor teammates were knocked out last week by Westlake.
