Men’s tennis team takes nine of 13 matches in Miami
Sigsgaard wins battle of ranked opponents in singles.

The Texas men’s tennis team continued a successful trip to Florida with nine victories in 13 matches Sunday at the Miami Invitational.
The second-ranked defending national champions won six of their nine singles matches and three of four doubles contests.
Senior Christian Sigsgaard, ranked 13th in the nation, led the way with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over 63rd-ranked Adria Soriano Barrera of Miami. Three of his teammates also beat Hurricanes, as Cleeve Harper topped Tatsuki Shimamoto 6-0, 6-4, Nevin Arimilli downed Stephen Madonia 6-2, 6-2 and Evin McDonald beat Pablo Aycart Joya 6-2, 6-0. Adding a one-set singles victory for Texas was Eshan Talluri, who beat Britton Johnston of Georgia 8-5.
In doubles, Harper and Chih Chi Huang topped Miami’s Soriano Barrer and Francisco Bastias 6-4, Eliot Spizzirri and Jacob Bullard defeated Shimamoto and Madonia 7-6 (8), and Arimilli and Talluri routed Wisconsin’s Robert Krill and Daniel Nuzhny 6-2.
Losing in singles for UT were Spizzirri, 7-6 (4), 6-4 to Bastias; Bullard, 6-2, 7-5 to Bojan Jankulovski of Miami; and Huang, 6-2, 6-0 to the Hurricanes’ Will Grattan-Smith.
Texas’ only doubles loss went to a tiebreaker as McDonald and Siem Woldeab fell to Wisconsin’s. Yuya Ito and Sigsgaard took home the doubles MVP honors for the tournament even though they didn’t play Sunday.
The Longhorns will be back in action Wednesday as they visit top-ranked Florida.
