No. 15 West Virginia rallies to defeat Texas women
Free throws help Mountaineers overcome UT's fourth-quarter lead.

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. — Tynice Martin scored 23 points and Kysre Gondrezick added 21 to rally No. 15 West Virginia to a 68-63 win over Texas on Sunday, running the Mountaineers’ winning streak to nine.
Martin and Gondrezick combined to score 20 of 21 West Virginia points in the fourth quarter, with Gondrezick making the plays to put the Mountaineers in the lead in the final minute and Martin securing the win.
West Virginia improved to 13-1 overall and 3-0 in the Big 12. Texas fell to 9-6 and 1-2.
Sug Sutton topped Texas with 18 points and added four rebounds, four assists and three steals. Charli Collier scored 11 points and had seven rebounds, and Joyner Holmes snagged 10 rebounds to go with her nine points.
The Mountaineers led 34-23 at the half, with their leaders combining for 21 points, and pushed the margin to 13 early in the third quarter. Sutton scored the last six points of an 8-0 run to close the quarter as the Longhorns took a 48-47 lead.
Texas led by four with less than two minutes to play and was up 61-59 after a free throw by Martin at the 1:11 mark. Gondrezick made the first of two free throws, and Kari Niblack grabbed one of her 12 rebounds off the miss on the second and fed Gondrezick for the go-ahead 3-pointer.
Gondrezick’s free throw with 25 seconds left pushed the lead to 64-61. Sutton made two free throws at 11 seconds, and Martin was quickly fouled. She followed up her two makes with a steal and added the clinching free throws.
West Virginia was 13 of 19 from the line in the fourth quarter after making 5 of 13 through the first three.
Texas will return home to face Texas Tech at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Erwin Center.
