Women’s tennis team wins five matches at Bahamas tournament

Horns take 4 of 6 from Florida in singles.

Texas won four of six singles matches and one of three doubles contests Sunday on the last day of the Pink Flamingo Invitational in Nassau, Bahamas.

Bad weather led to the singles matches against Florida being shortened to one set. Anna Turati defeated Victoria Emma 6-1, Lexi Ryngler topped Ida Jarlskog 6-2, Adri Nagy edged Marlee Zein 7-6 (7-5), and Marta Perez Mur beat Sydney Berlin 7-6 (9-7) for UT’s victories. Texas’ Bianca Turati dropped a 6-1 decision to McCartney Kessler, and teammate Tijana Spasojevic fell 7-5 to Tsveta Dimitrova.

In doubles, UT’s Fernanda Labraña and Perez Mur beat UCLA’s Abbey Forbes and Annette Goulak 6-4. The Bruins’ Elysia Bolton and Jada Hart topped the Turati sisters by the same score. Abi Altick and Taylor Johnson of UCLA took a 6-2 victory over Gabby Cusano and Ryngler.


Texas next will host the ITA Kick-Off Weekend at the Texas Tennis Center, facing Iowa on Friday and either LSU or Texas Tech on Saturday.
