What he brings to Texas’ table: Collins was the top target remaining on Texas’ board following the early signing period because of his rare combination of size and speed. The former basketball player could easily reach 300 pounds by the time his true freshman season begins in August. He proved his ability to remain at defensive end with a strong week of practice at the All-American Bowl in San Antonio, earning him five-star status at

Texas signed defensive tackles Vernon Broughton and Sawyer Goram-Welch in December, and both enrolled early. Collins will provide new defensive coordinator Chris Ash another young, promising body to add to a defensive line group that needs depth as it transitions back to a four-man front. The Longhorns added four-star Manor defensive end Princely Umanmielen earlier in the day.

Collins is the third highest-rated player in Texas’ class behind five-star running back Bijan Robinson and four-star quarterback Hudson Card. His mother, Bonita Pollard, played basketball at Texas. He recorded 74 tackles for loss, 18 sacks and forced 10 fumbles in his three-year varsity career.
