Story highlights
  • Four-star wide receiver Rondale Moore committed to Texas Sunday morning.
  • Slot receiver Rondale Moore joins Justin Watkins as wide receivers in the 2018 Texas recruiting class.
  • Rondale Moore's quickness and elusiveness make him a dangerous weapon as a receiver and a returner.

Texas’ recruiting class grew to 12 members Sunday when four-star wide receiver Rondale Moore committed to the Longhorns. The 5-foot-8.5 slot receiver from Trinity High School in Kentucky joins Florida’s Justin Watkins as the two wide receiver commits in the class. Moore was offered by Texas May 22, visited the campus last weekend and committed a week after returning home from the visit.

Texas’ recruiting class ranks No. 4 in the nation and No. 1 in the Big 12, per 247Sports. Here is a closer look at the newest Longhorn.

Skill set: Moore is explosive. He’s ranked the No. 43 wide receiver prospect in the nation and the No. 215 ranked wide receiver in the country, per 247Sports. He held more than 30 offers before choosing Texas after visiting the campus for the first time last weekend. He’s undersized at just over 5-foot-8, but his lack of height shouldn’t hinder his ability as a slot receiver.

Moore is incredibly quick and possesses some of the best feet of a wide receiver in the country. He’s quick and elusive in open space and is a solid route-runner for a prep athlete. His skills earned him an invitation to The Opening Finals in Oregon next week.

Immediate impact: Texas needs an immediate influx of talent at the wide receiver position. Moore is the second slot receiver committed to Texas, joining Watkins, who was Texas’ first commitment of the cycle. There are some concerns surrounding Watkins’ commitment, so Moore might be the lone slot receiver signed by Texas by national signing day.

If both players end up at Texas, the two will likely battle for snaps early in their career, on offense and in the return game. Herman’s offense uses multiple slot receivers, meaning there are plenty of opportunities for Moore once he arrives on campus. His skill set will be hard to keep off the field, especially on special teams.

Fitting into the program: Texas wants to recruit speed at slot receiver and Moore is a perfect fit. He’s one of the quickest prospects in the country. His quickness and elusiveness also makes him a candidate to return punts and kicks. Moore was on campus for the Texas Heat Wave pool party hosted by Texas last weekend and was impressed enough to commit a week after returning home from the visit. He enjoyed the atmosphere with Texas’ coaches, current players and recruits.

Recruiting at the position: Texas wants at least four wide receivers in the 2018 class. It isn’t a guarantee that both Watkins and Moore end up on campus, meaning Texas is still actively pursuing at least three other wide receiver options. The top targets are Al’Vonte Woodard, Brennan Eagles and Tommy Bush. Texas is also still in contact with in-state slot receiver Jaylen Waddle. Woodard, Eagles, Bush and Moore will all be at The Opening Finals in Oregon together at the end of June.
