Katy Taylor offensive tackle Hayden Conner shocked the recruiting world on July 23 when he committed to Texas.

It wasn’t that the four-star wasn’t high on the Longhorns from the beginning. It was that he pulled the trigger so early in the recruiting process. His commitment was a sign of things to come for the Longhorns’ 2021 class, as it now stands at seven commitments. Conner is a 6-5, 317-pound prospect who is considered the 20th-best tackle prospect in the class and will surely be a member of the 2021 Fabulous 55.

At what age did you fall in love with football?

I fell in love with football at an early age because I wanted to be like my dad and go play college football.

What made Texas your choice?

Knowing that my life-long friend, Jalen Milroe, and I would be playing together for the next four years is going to be amazing. The aerospace engineering department was the best fit for me out of all the other schools.

What is the hardest part of the recruiting process?

The hardest part of recruiting, or anything in life, is getting started. Getting yourself known and getting out there is probably the most challenging part of the process. After that, it’s been difficult making a decision that will have such a big impact on the rest of my life.

What excites you most about college?

I’m most excited about playing in front of the home crowd in Austin and all of the internships and opportunities that the University of Texas aerospace department will provide.

What word would you use to describe Tom Herman?

Lively.

Where do you see yourself playing at Texas?

My role will be pretty simple: To be known for academics first and to help my team get back to a national championship. I plan to learn every possible position on the line so that coach Herb Hand can put me wherever I can make an early impact. Academically, I want to get involved in a number of the projects the aerospace department is working on.

What artist would you most like to see live?

Either Tears for Fears or Hall & Oates, though I’d like to go back and see them in their prime.

Favorite movie?

Choosing your favorite movie is like choosing between hamburgers or pizza: It’s impossible. So, I’m going to give you two: “Avengers End Game” and “Interstellar.”

Favorite athlete of all time?

J.J. Watt.

Favorite sport to watch other than football?

My favorite sport to play other than football is basketball, but my favorite sport to watch other than football would be the UFC.
