Lake Travis tight end Lake McRee became Texas’ second commitment of the 2021 cycle, joining four-star wide receiver Quay Davis of Dallas Skyline. It was an obvious and easy decision for McRee, who has grown up minutes from Texas’ campus and has been a Longhorns fan. He also catches passes at Lake Travis from fellow UT commit Hudson Card.
I caught up with McRee to gather his thoughts about sports and life.
At what age did you fall in love with football?
I first fell in love with football by throwing the ball in the front yard every day with my dad after school.
What made Texas your pick?
It’s always been a dream of mine (to play at Texas) that I’ve been wanting to make come true my entire life. And I love everything about Texas. The location, the environment, coaches, etc.
What is the most difficult part of the recruiting process?
The most difficult part of the recruiting process is to balance still working like you have nothing even though you have coaches gassing your head up every day.
What’s your future role at Texas?
Basically the same to what I do at my high school, which is try to make our offense as dangerous as possible, and also be able to block the biggest guy on defense while also being a matchup nightmare when lined up as a wide receiver.
What excites you the most about college?
Just being able to have the chance to play the game I love at the place I love.
What is the hardest part of the recruiting process?
You can focus too much on it and get your priorities mixed up.
What word would you use to describe Tom Herman?
What artist would you most like to see live?
“The Blind Side.”
Favorite athlete of all-time?
Favorite sport to watch other than football?
