One of Texas’ most recent commitments is four-star wide receiver Demariyon Houston. He and his Millwood (Okla.) High School teammates began the season last Thursday with a win over defending Oklahoma Class 4A champions Heritage Hall. Millwood is that state’s defending Class 2A champions and looks like the favorite to repeat after its impressive victory.

The Oklahoma native sat down with us to answer 10 questions about his past and his future at Texas:

At what age did you fall in love with football?

I honestly didn’t play sports growing up because we were so poor and I was making the wrong decisions with the wrong crowd. I was hanging out with gangs and my mom was a young, single mother. My grandma was on drugs. It was tough. I’d say I was 12 when I first started liking football. I started to realize in high school that this sport could get me out of my current situation.

What made Texas your choice?

It wasn’t really about football. Texas cares about how your life goes after football. The goal is to play football, not let football play me.

What are your goals as a senior?

To win another state title with my teammates, keep getting better and improve as a leader. We want to go back to back as Class 2A champions here in Oklahoma.

What was most important to you as a recruit?

I wanted to fall in love with the environment and pick a school with a high graduation rate. It was bigger than football.

What word would you use to describe Tom Herman?

Real.

Where do you see yourself playing at Texas?

At wide receiver, both on the outside and in the slot. I also want to return kicks. I’ve grown to love that part of the game.

What artist would you most like to see live?

Drake.

Favorite movie?

All of the “Jurassic Park” movies.

Favorite athlete of all-time?

Odell Beckham Jr.

Favorite sport to watch other than football?

Track.
