Texas scored a big recruiting victory over Texas A&M, literally and figuratively, when Manor four-star defensive end Princely Umanmielen picked the Longhorns on Aug. 12. It was another in a long line of recruiting victories for Tom Herman’s program over the past two months. The 2020 class ranks sixth in the nation and first in the Big 12 with a total of 17 pledges. Umanmielen is the No. 22-ranked player on the Fabulous 55.

At what age did you fall in love with football?

Playing linebacker in eighth grade. I always had this great feeling when I would get a tackle.

What made Texas your pick?

I get to play in front of friends and family, and I feel like the future of Texas football is bright. It was also about the relationships I have with coach (Oscar) Giles and the players. Every time I was there, I felt like already part of the team.

What is the most difficult part of the recruiting process?

Just getting my phone blown up and always having to make calls and texts to coaches. It was stressful.

What’s your future role at Texas?

Probably like Malcolm Roach at the 4i. I want to slim down a little bit and play some B-backer like Joseph Ossai.

What excites you the most about college?

The atmosphere of the games.

What is the hardest part of the recruiting process?

You can focus too much on it and get your priorities mixed up.

What word would you use to describe Tom Herman?

Passionate.

What artist would you most like to see live?

Chris Brown and Drake.

Favorite movie?

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.”

Favorite athlete of all-time?

LeBron James.

Favorite sport to watch other than football?

Basketball.
