Scouting report: Johnson shattered every record a quarterback could set at Port Neches-Groves and was the first commitment of the 2019 class. The four-star dual-threat was clearly Tom Herman’s only priority at the position in the 2019 class and it didn’t take long to convince the life-long Texas fan to pledge to the Longhorns. Johnson finished his prep career with 7,710 passing yards and 85 touchdowns. He added 4,871 yards and 82 touchdowns on the ground.

Johnson is also a winner. He led Port Neches-Groves to three district titles and multiple-round runs in the playoffs each year at quarterback. Johnson was a finalist for the Elite 11 and is an improved passer from the time he emerged as a starter as a sophomore. Texas won’t need Johnson to play in 2019 with the quarterback room in great shape.
