Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian looks to the scoreboard between plays. Texas defeated Texas Christian University 32-27 at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas on Oct. 2, 2021.

Texas is starting the week off strong with a commitment from three-star 2023 tight end Spencer Shannon.

Shannon’s commitment comes after Steve Sarkisian and the Texas staff hosted a huge recruiting weekend on campus. He took little time to announce his decision following his official visit to Austin.

The Mater Dei product is rated as the No. 53 player in the state of Calif. and the No. 41 tight end in the nation by 247Sports composite. Shannon’s 6-foot-6 frame and athleticism make him an excellent fit for Texas’ offense.

He chose Texas over other offers from the likes of Notre Dame, Stanford, Tennessee and UCLA.
