How it all happened Saturday night in Lubbock:

First quarter

Texas Tech 7, Texas 0. For the eighth time in 10 games, the Horns gave up points on an opponent’s opening drive. Jett Duffey’s touchdown to T.J. Vasher was the score, but a key fourth-and-5 conversion at UT’s 44 (a 6-yard pass) was the key play. Tech later got down to Texas’ 1, but two runs lost yardage and Davante Davis picked off an ill-advised pass by Duffey. Lil’Jordan Humphrey picked up 55 yards on two catches, and the quarter ended with the Horns at Tech’s 24.

Second quarter

Halftime — Texas 17, Texas Tech 10. Dicker’s 52-yard field goal was the third-longest ever for a UT freshman, and the first 50-yarder for Texas since 2015. Tech had a hand in both Texas touchdowns. Humphrey’s touchdown catch came three plays after a facemask penalty away from the action turned what should have been a fourth-and-long into a first down. Texas’ final score was set up by a short field on a failed fourth-and-1 gamble from Tech — at Tech’s own 34. Charles Omenihu stuffed Duffey on the play.

Texas: Cameron Dicker 52-yard field goal, 13:40

Texas: Humphrey 9-yard pass from Sam Ehlinger (Dicker kick, 3:46)

Texas: Keaontay Ingram 2-yard run (Dicker kick, 1:16)

Texas Tech: Hatfield 41-yard field goal, :07

Third quarter

Texas 27, Texas Tech 10. Texas got its second fourth-down conversion of the night when Ehlinger fit a ball into a tight window in the end zone. The 1-yard catch was the shortest of Devin Duvernay’s career; he had been averaging 61 yards per touchdown catch. Two Tech scoring opportunities were thwarted by Duffey fumbles — a strip and recovery by Davis at UT’s 19 and a Kris Boyd strip at Texas’ 15.

Texas: Devin Duvernay 1-yard pass from Ehlinger (Dicker kick, 10:17)

Texas: Dicker 46-yard field goal, 1:57

Fourth quarter

Final — Texas 41, Texas Tech 34. Remember when Michael Crabtree broke the Longhorns’ hearts 10 years ago in Lubbock with his last-second touchdown catch? Humphrey repaid the favor tonight. With overtime in their pocket, the Horns went for the win, capping their winning drive with Ehlinger’s gutsy 50/50 throw to a well-covered Humphrey with 23 seconds left. Tech had scored 17 straight points to turn a 34-17 deficit into a 34-34 tie. This was a wild one.

Texas Tech: Antoine Wesley 57-yard pass from Duffey (Hatfield kick, 13:26)

Texas: Duvernay 39-yard pass from Ehlinger (Dicker kick, 10:26)

Texas Tech: Hatfield 36-yard field goal, 6:23

Texas Tech: Vasher 2-yard pass from Duffey (Hatfield kick, 4:47)

Texas Tech: Wesley 9-yard pass from Duffey (Hatfield kick, 1:45)

Texas: Humphrey 29-yard pass from Ehlinger (Dicker kick, :23)
