How it all happened Saturday night in Austin:

First quarter

Texas 7, Louisiana Tech 0. It was a heavy dose of Duvernay early for the Longhorns; after returning the opening kickoff 36 yards, he caught for short passes on the opening drive, including a touchdown. He also had a run and drew a face mask penalty. Both teams spoiled scoring opportunities. Tech’s first drive reached UT’s 26 but ended with a missed field goal. And UT’s Collin Johnson fumbled at the Bulldogs’ 25.

Texas: Devin Duvernay 4-yard pass from Sam Ehlinger (Cameron Dicker kick, 12:40)

Second quarter

Halftime: Texas 24, Louisiana Tech 0. Johnson’s touchdown was the 152nd catch of his career, tied for eighth all-time with B.J. Johnson. He later moved into eighth by himself. Later in the quarter, Brennan Eagles recorded his first career touchdown catch. Dicker kicked his 19th career field goal. Kobe Boyce was flagged for pass interference to put Tech into scoring territory, but J’Mar Smith missed a wide open receiver for a touchdown and the Bulldogs missed another field goal.

Texas: Johnson 6-yard pass from Ehlinger (Dicker kick, 13:20)

Texas: Brennan Eagles 28-yard pass from Ehlinger (Dicker kick, 10:26)

Texas: Dicker 43-yard field goal (2:56)

Third quarter

Texas 38, Louisiana Tech 0. Eagles found the end zone again as Ehlinger became the first Longhorn since David Ash to throw four touchdowns in a single game. The Bulldogs ended the quarter at Texas’ 20-yard line; that was the deepest that Tech had ventured all night.

Texas: Eagles 25-yard pass from Ehlinger (Dicker kick, 9:06)

Texas: Keaontay Ingram 1-yard run (Dicker kick, 2:44)

Fourth quarter

Final: Texas 45, Louisiana Tech 14. The shutout disappeared early in the final quarter, as the Bulldogs finished off their drive at the end of the third. Casey Thompson relieved Ehlinger, but a three-and-out gave the ball back to the Bulldogs, who scored again. On that drive, Joseph Ossai picked off a Smith pass and returned it 82 yards for a touchdown, but Brandon Jones’ roughing the passer penalty wiped it out. Thompson scored his first career touchdown on a short run near the end of the game.

Louisiana Tech: Malik Stanley 5-yard pass from J’Mar Smith (Bailey Hale kick, 13:31)

Louisiana Tech: Griffin Hebert 12-yard pass from Smith (Hale kick, 7:54)

Texas: Thompson 2-yard run (Dicker kick, 1:09)
