Texas swimmers and divers earn Big 12 honors

Texas swimmers and divers swept the weekly Big 12 awards the conference announced on Wednesday.

Madisyn Cox was named the Big 12’s swimmer of the week after she won all eight events in which she competed in the opening weekend of competition.

Cox notched two wins over Olympic gold medalist Lilly King of Indiana a week and a half ago.


Meghan O’Brien won both events on the weekend and earned the conference’s diver of the week award. She scored 341.25 points to defeat nine divers in the three-meter event. She won the one-meter event a day later.

Mark Anderson was named the men’s diver of the week after taking second in the one-meter event and fourth in the three-meter event in competition a week and a half ago.

Clark Smith was named the Big 12’s swimmer of the week after winning three of four events at Indiana.

Smith was also named CollegeSwimming.com’s national swimmer of the week last week as a result of posting a 4:20.33 in the 500-yard freestyle. The mark was good for best in the nation. In the 1,000-yard freestyle he posted the nation’s third-best mark of 9:03.72.
