Posted January 17th, 2017

A pair of Longhorns swimmers, Madisyn Cox and Clark Smith, were named national swimmers of the week by Tuesday.

Madisyn Cox took the honor as the national division I women’s swimmer of the week for the second week in a row. It’s her fourth time overall winning the honor and third time this season.

Cox took victories in all six of her individual events last week and helped the Horns take wins in dual meets over Georgia and Auburn. She helped the Longhorns hand Georgia a home loss on Saturday to end a 103-meet home winning streak for the Lady Bulldogs.

Clark Smith was named the national division I men’s swimmer of the week after he notched four wins in his events last week. The distance swimmer is No. 1 in the nation in both the 500-yard and 1,000-yard freestyle events.

Smith won the 1,000 freestyle event at Georgia nearly 14 seconds ahead of the closest Bulldog competitor.
