Texas qualifies six for NCAA Championships in platform event

Posted March 13th, 2019

The Texas Longhorns will send three men and three women to compete in the platform diving event at the NCAA Championships after Wednesday’s Zone D diving competition.

Paola Pineda, Murphy Bromberg and Sofia Rauzi each qualified on the women’s side. Jacob Cornish, Jordan Windle and Reed Merritt qualified for the men.

Pineda finished in fourth place with 544.80 points to earn her first berth to the NCAA Championships. Bromberg took sixth with 535.10 points while Rauzi finished seventh with 517.95 points. Bromberg qualified for her third event at the championships (1-meter, 3-meter) and looks to improve on her runner-up finish last year on platform.

Cornish and Windle also qualified for three events at the NCAA Championships. Windle finished in fifth Wednesday, scoring 673.05 points. Merritt took sixth to qualify for his first NCAA Championships. Cornish ended up 11th, but qualified due to already qualifying for a springboard event.

The women’s NCAA Championships are scheduled for March 20-23. The men are set for March 27-30.
