Texas rallied to tie it in the ninth, but a walk-off solo homer by Kort Peterson gave the UCLA Bruins a 5-4 victory over the Longhorns on Saturday in Los Angeles.
UT’s Kody Clemens led off the ninth with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. UCLA’s Gadsby walked Michael Cantu to put runners on the corners with no outs and Brady Harlan tied it with a RBI double to left field. The Longhorns’ rally ended with two strikeouts and a ground out.
Blake Wellman took the mound for Texas in the ninth and Peterson led off the inning with a solo shot over the right field wall.
The Bruins (7-7) spilt the three-game series, Texas topped UCLA 7-5 on Friday, and will play the series finale on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Bruins scored two runs off Texas starter Ty Culbreth in the first inning and one more in the third. Culbreth gave up four runs, three earned, on seven hits and had seven strikeouts through 7 1/3 innings.
UCLA’s Jake Bird held Texas scoreless until the sixth inning when Tres Barrera hit a RBI double. Bird was replaced by Scott Burke following Barrera’s hit and the next at bat, he gave up a RBI single to Kacy Clemens.
UT’s Travis Jones led off the eighth inning with a solo homer to knot the score at 3-3. UCLA went ahead in the bottom half of inning when Texas pitcher Travis Duke picked off a runner and in the ensuing rundown, Brett Urabe was able to score from third.
