For a three-game series that begins on Thursday, Texas will make the short trip up I-35 to Waco’s Baylor Ballpark.

Both the Longhorns and Bears tied for sixth in last year’s Big 12 race, but have rebounded from pedestrian seasons. Texas, which went 25-32 last year, is 23-13. And Baylor, which was 24-29, is 20-13. Texas, at 6-6, finds itself in the middle of the Big 12 standings; Baylor is 3-6.

Pitchers to watch: Texas RHP Nolan Kingham (5-2, 1.23 ERA, 35 K); Texas RHP Morgan Cooper (4-2, 1.79 ERA, 63 K); Baylor RHP Troy Montemayor (1.38 ERA, eight saves); Baylor RHP Montana Parsons (2-2, 3.02 ERA, 36 K)

Hitters to watch: Texas 1B Kacy Clemens (.322 BA, 30 runs, 6 HRs, 28 RBIs); Texas OF Travis Jones (.266 BA, 24 runs, 11 SBs) ; Baylor C Shea Langeliers (.293 BA, 5 HRs, 19 RBIs); Baylor OF Kameron Esthay (.292 BA, 27 runs, 20 RBIs)

Notes:

  • Texas hasn’t won a road series this season. UT dropped three of its four games at Stanford and went 1-2 at Kansas. Overall, Texas is 4-6 in games away from UFCU Disch-Falk Field.
  • As a mandated punishment for his ejection from this past Sunday’s loss to Oklahoma, Clemens sat against Texas State on Tuesday. That ended a 92-game playing streak for Clemens, including 49 straight starts. Before Tuesday, the last game Clemens hadn’t played in was the 2015 season finale.
  • With 45 steals, Texas joins fellow state schools Texas Southern (74), TCU (60) and Texas State (60) among the NCAA’s leaders. Baylor has stolen only six bases and is ranked 295th of the 295 Division I teams.
  • Austin High’s Richard Cunningham and Georgetown’s T.J. Raguse are regulars in the Baylor lineup. Cunningham is tied for the conference lead with three triples.

The first pitches for Thursday and Friday’s games are scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Things get underway at 3:05 p.m. on Saturday. The series will be broadcast on 104.9 FM and 1260 AM.
