The Texas Longhorns baseball team appeared poised to win in Waco, leading for most of the game, but the Baylor Bears (22-13, 5-6 Big 12) scored four runs in the final two innings to steal a 4-3 win on Friday night.

Texas (23-15, 6-8) led 3-0 entering the bottom of the eighth, but Phil Henley allowed three runs to cross the plate before Kameron Esthay hit the walk-off single that scored Levi Gilcrease an inning later.

Esthay finished the game 2 for 5 with a run scored and two RBIs.

Morgan Cooper was set to pick up the win for Texas, and even the three-game series, as he allowed no runs on just three hits through five innings. He struck out five batters, but the Texas bullpen couldn’t finish the job.

Trouble started after Henley pitched scoreless sixth and seventh innings for Texas.

Richard Cunningham singled to open the eighth and advanced to second on a fielder’s choice. He moved over to third on a wild pitch and then scored on an RBI single by Matt Menard.

Later in the inning Esthay hit into a fielder’s choice which allowed Shea Langeliers to score. Cameron Miller hit a pinch-hit single to score Esthay and tie the game heading into the ninth.

T.J. Raguse led off the bottom of the ninth with a walk issued by Beau Ridgeway (1-1) before being moved over to second on a sac bunt. Gilcrease was inserted as a pinch runner and Esthay came through once again.

The Longhorns committed three errors in the game, including one in the eighth which allowed Esthay to advance to scoring position. It’s their first three-error game since Feb. 18 against Rice.

Texas took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a David Hamilton sacrifice fly that allowed Bret Boswell to score. Zane Gurwitz then reached base on a throwing error that allowed Ryan Reynolds to score later in the inning to make it a two-run game.

Kody Clemens drove in a run in the fifth inning on a single up the middle that scored Hamilton and gave Texas a 3-0 lead.

Texas will try to get a win in the series finale on Saturday at 3:05 p.m. in Waco.
