Posted June 14th, 2017

MLB teams kept calling Texas’ Longhorns on Wednesday.

Between pitcher Morgan Cooper and first baseman Kacy Clemens, Texas had five players selected over the MLB Draft’s first two days. (Only LSU and Kentucky had more). MLB teams continued to scoop up Longhorns on Wednesday, the last day of the draft.

Here is a list of the Longhorns taken over the final 30 rounds of the MLB Draft:

RHP Tyler Schimpf to the San Francisco Giants (13th round, 396th overall)

OF Patrick Mathis to the Houston Astros (22nd round, 661st overall)

RHP Connor Mayes to the Kansas City Royals (24th round, 720nd overall)

OF Zane Gurwitz to the Los Angeles Angels (26th round, 775th overall)

OF Travis Jones to the Kansas City Royals (29th round, 870th overall)

RHP Jon Malmin to the Los Angeles Angels (31st round, 925th overall)

With the exception of Gurwitz, all of the aforementioned draftees are underclassmen. The players will have until July 15 to decide whether they’ll return to Texas or sign with their major-league team.
