Texas announces that seniors John Burt and Jamari Chisholm will redshirt and return in 2019

Posted November 12th, 2018

Texas seniors John Burt and Jamari Chisholm won’t make their final appearances at Royal-Memorial Stadium until next season.

Burt and Chisholm aren’t listed among the 26 seniors that Texas will recognize ahead of its last home game of the season on Saturday. Texas coach Tom Herman told reporters on Monday that both Burt and Chisholm will redshirt. Burt has appeared in two games this season and Chisholm has played once, but new NCAA rules permit eligible players to appear in four contests without burning a redshirt season.

Burt has recorded 58 catches and 844 receiving yards at Texas, and he is averaging 58 yards over his four touchdown catches. The 6-3, 195-pound Burt entered this season as a contender for playing time at “Z” receiver, but he suffered a foot injury in fall camp before Devin Duvernay claimed the job. Burt is also a member of UT’s track and field team and one of the top hurdlers in the Big 12.

Signed out of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, Chisholm was a member of Herman’s first recruiting class at Texas. As a junior, he played in 10 games and registered three tackles.
