The Longhorns have announced that they will honor star running back Cedric Benson with a helmet decal this season.
A black decal with the No. 32 that Benson wore from 2001-04, , which will be worn for an undisclosed amount of time, was unveiled on Twitter on Monday. Benson was killed in a motorcycle accident on Aug. 17. A funeral service was held this past Saturday.
“Cedric was one of the best that’s ever played here,” Texas coach Tom Herman said at his weekly press conference. “He’s going to be missed by a lot.”

Benson rushed for 5,540 yards and 64 touchdowns during his time at Texas. Both numbers rank second in the UT record books. In 2004, Benson claimed one of the four Doak Walker Awards that have been won by a Longhorn.
Two Longhorns — senior defensive lineman Malcolm Roach and junior running back Daniel Young — currently wear Benson’s number. Roach, who is also a team captain, said earlier this month that wearing his jersey now “has new meaning.”
