Two Longhorns have made the preseason watch list for the Biletnikoff Award as the nation’s top collegiate wide receiver, and it’s pretty easy to figure out who they are.
Mike Davis and Jaxon Shipley were Texas’ leading receivers in 2012 by a wide margin. Shipley caught 59 passes for 737 yards and six touchdowns, while Davis had 57 receptions for 939 yards and seven TDs.
If Davis or Shipley were to win the award, it would mark a first for Texas. No Longhorn has won it since its inception in 1994. The Big 12 has had two multiple winners. Texas Tech’s Michael Crabtree captured the trophy in 2007 and 2008, and Oklahoma State’s Justin Blackmon won it in 2010 and 2011.
