The spate of watch-list announcments for college football post-season awards ended Friday, with Texas defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat included on the list for the Walter Camp Award, presented to the sport’s player of the year.
Jeffcoat, a senior, now is on five preseason lists — the Bednarik Trophy, Nagurski Trophy, Lott Trophy and CFPA Defensive Player are the others.
Also named to the preseason All-Big 12 team, Jeffcoat missed the final seven games of the 2012 season with a torn pectoral muscle. Despite his lack of playing time, he still finished second on the team with 11 tackles behind the line and four quarterback sacks.
In 2011, Jeffcoat recorded 71 tackles, including 21 for losses. He also registered eight sacks.
Longhorns have claimed the Camp award three times. Quarterback Colt McCoy won it in 2008 and 2009, and running back Ricky Williams was the 1998 winner.
