UT volleyball gets No. 1 preseason ranking

Posted August 12th, 2013

The Texas volleyball team will start the season the same way it finished last year, at No. 1.

The Longhorns received 55 of a possible 60 first-place votes in the preseason coaches poll that was released Monday. It’s the highest preseason ranking in program history. Penn State ranked No. 2. They’ll play Texas, Sept. 7, in the Longhorns first home match of the season. Stanford, Southern California and Washington filled out the top five.

The Longhorns, the defending NCAA champions, return all but one one starter from last year’s team.  Among those returning are AVCA All-Americans Haley Eckerman and Bailey Webster, both outside hitters, and setter Hannah Allison.

The Texas team reported for preseason practices last Friday. The Longhorns will have their annual orange-white match, Aug. 24. Their first match is at Hawaii, Aug. 31.
