Big 12 Power Poll: Week 2

Posted September 3rd, 2013

This week’s power poll, put together by our own Kevin Lyttle:

No. 1: OKLAHOMA STATE (1-0): The Cowboys are spending their second straight week in Texas, playing and recruiting. This one looks like a vacation. This week: at UTSA (1-0). Last week’s rank: No. 1.

No. 2: OKLAHOMA (1-0): OU’s new QB, Trevor Knight, wasn’t bad. But the real story was a rebuilt defense that pitched a shutout. This week: vs. West Virginia (1-0). Last week’s rank: No. 4.

No. 3: BAYLOR (1-0): The Bulls aren’t gonna stop the Bears’ explosive offense. Heck, the Buffalo Bills might not smother this offense. This week: vs. Buffalo (0-1). Last week’s rank: No. 5.

No. 4: TEXAS (1-0): If the Horns can burn the stingy Cougars repeatedly with big plays, then we’ll know they’ve got something special. This week: at BYU (0-1). Last week’s rank: No. 3.

No. 5: TCU (0-1): It hardly seems fair to drop the Frogs, who were brave enough to schedule LSU and lived to tell about it. This week: vs. S.E. Louisiana (1-0). Last week’s rank: No. 2.

No. 6: TEXAS TECH (1-0): It was a brilliant debut for QB Baker Mayfield. Too bad he’s not allowed to chow down like the scholarship guys. This week: vs. Stephen F. Austin (0-1). Last week’s rank: No. 7.

No. 7: KANSAS STATE (0-1): Don’t feel too awful, Wildcats. FCS juggernaut North Dakota State could beat lots of FBS programs. This week: vs. Louisiana-Lafayette (0-1). Last week’s rank: No. 6.

No. 8: WEST VIRGINIA (1-0): The Mountaineers rolled up 778 yards and 49 points on OU last year. Ain’t gonna happen this time. This week: at Oklahoma (1-0). Last week’s rank: No. 8.

No. 9: IOWA STATE (0-1): The Cyclones lost to little Northern Iowa, but don’t write them off vs. equally disappointing Iowa. This week: vs. Iowa (0-1). Last week’s rank: No. 9.

No. 10: KANSAS (0-0): We demand proof that the Jayhawks can beat a I-AA team before jumping them over ISU, which lost to one. This week: vs. South Dakota (1-0). Last week’s rank: No. 10.
